Can you name something that lots of people can’t imagine living without but also lots of people despise? If you said peanut butter you guessed it right.
I still remember the first time I had a chance to try it. I was so excited because up until that time I had only seen it in the movies. And every child there loved it so I thought it tastes something like Nutella but with a peanut flavor.
Anyway, I was at my friend’s house and her mom asked me if I’d like to try peanut butter which they had brought from the US. I was so in. So I went to the kitchen, she handed me a teaspoon full of peanut butter and to my mouth it went.
Oh my, I was shocked…I wasn’t expecting something like this. It was sticky and salty – nothing like Nutella. And my first thought was – how do they eat that?
I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t thrilled about that taste. So I thought that peanut butter wasn’t for me. I did not love it like the other kids in the movies. Oh, how wrong was I.
Some years later, I think it may have been five to eight years, I tried it again. I started cooking with it. And guess what, I started liking it. I can’t remember exactly why and how but usually when you don’t eat it as a child you probably will in the future.
So, now I’m basically adding it everywhere.
So, let’s talk about peanut butter quality. With all the foods I prefer preservative and crap free choices. Some time ago I started making peanut butter myself. I wish I had known earlier how easy it is. And the best part is that you can add any flavor to it. So you don’t have to buy fancy and overpriced nut butters from the store.
Let’s get into it.
Homemade Peanut Butter Recipe
- At least 400g peanuts (I use roasted & salted)
- Cinnamon
- 2 tbsp vanilla extract
- Salt
- 1. If you don't use pre-roasted and salted peanuts then roast them in the oven.
- 2. Place them in the food processor and pulse the peanuts until it looks just like butter. (If it sticks to the side then stop for a second and help with a spoon.)
- 3. Add vanilla extract and cinnamon. (It makes it so much more unique.)
- 4. Process for about 1 minute.
- 5. If you want to add more of something, do it. Otherwise, it's ready!
PS! I like to serve it with warm homemade banana bread.
Let me know how it turned out for you and feel free to share pictures!
