Rye Bread Truffles

Rye bread truffles aren’t your regular truffles – they come with a twist! Rye bread inside a truffle might sound unexpected, but trust me, it tastes surprisingly good. Since rye bread is a traditional food in Estonia, these chocolatey bites make the perfect treat for celebrating Independence Day – or just for enjoying a unique, wholesome dessert or snack anytime.

Ingredients

Medjool Dates

  • Why They’re Used: Naturally sweet and sticky, they help bind the truffles together.
  • Benefits: High in fiber, antioxidants, and a great natural energy source.
  • Substitute: Regular dates (soak in warm water for 10 minutes to soften).

Rye Bread

  • Why It’s Used: Adds a rich, hearty flavor and unique texture to the truffles.
  • Benefits: High in fiber, supports digestion, and provides a deep, slightly nutty taste.
  • Substitute: Whole grain or pumpernickel bread, but the traditional rye works best.

Cinnamon

  • Why It’s Used: Enhances the flavor with a warm, spiced note.
  • Benefits: Contains antioxidants and may help regulate blood sugar.
  • Substitute: Nutmeg or cardamom for a slightly different spice profile.

Dark Chocolate (80%)

  • Why It’s Used: Creates a rich, indulgent chocolate coating.
  • Benefits: High in antioxidants and lower in sugar than milk chocolate.
  • Substitute: Any dark chocolate over 70% cocoa for a similar deep flavor.

Coconut Oil

  • Why It’s Used: Helps the melted chocolate coat the truffles smoothly.
